First and foremost, I'm sorry I haven't been posting review more often! It has been a very crazy time of year lately, and it's been hard to find time! But hopefully starting this next week I'll be back to my regular posting!
The Siren
4.5/5 Stars
Kiera Cass
Synopsis:
Kahlen is deadly, but being deadly saved her from death. Kahlen is a siren, saved by the ocean. Kahlen had the will to live, which saved her life. Kahlen was a human, she still is, but she can’t speak. Well she can, her voice will just kill the person she is talking to. The ocean is Kahlens closest friend. Kahlen has lost everything, friends, family, and freedom. One day other sirens were singing to make the ship Kahlen was on sink. They do that so the Ocean has food, the people. The Ocean sometimes chooses to save a person if they are crying out for help. But she doesn’t just save them, she wants a favor in return. 100 years of service, as one of her sirens. Serving alongside some of the people who just killed her own family. Kahlen, and three other girls serve as a siren for the ocean. They girls are very kind and get along great. The girls don’t really want to be sirens, but it’s life or death. Kahlen is the Ocean’s perfect little angel. She follows all the rules, talks to the Ocean constantly, and always comes when the Ocean calls. There is one thing Kahlen can’t handle, she can’t stand to see people die. Kahlen has nightmare most nights, and doesn’t go out into the city unless she has to. Until one thing, one person, changes everything. Akinli. A human boy who Kahlen meets. He doesn’t care if Kahlen can’t talk, he has a friend. But Kahlen and Akinli start to like each other. Kahlen can’t say a word, or if she does he will die. She can’t express her feeling or tell him how much he means to her, why she can’t talk, or the truth. Unless she wants him to die. But if she does speak would the Ocean save him? The answer remains unclear, which is why no matter what she must not say a single word.
My Review:
Evil Mermaids, okay, I can manage that. A talking ocean, okay the story is getting a little strange now. 4 voices that can kill, okay it’s officially strange now. But honestly I loved this book! I don’t know how all of the elements and characters made a wonderful story, but they did! The only thing I docked it points for was it was a little confusing in some parts, and I didn’t necessarily like the ocean being a character. That is my personal preference though. I fell in love with Kahlen, it was one of those characters you really enjoy reading about. I finished this book in less than 48 hours. I honestly was really scared to read this book because I didn’t want it to ruin my opinion on the selection series, but I gave in about two week before The Crown came out. This book will probably one of my favorite reads of the year.
